GroupWise

GroupWise is a training program in process skills using an experiential learning method. It covers both task related skills, such as understanding purpose and reviewing to see that a task has been carried out to its conclusion, and interpersonal skills such as speaking and listening and behaving confidently in a group. The training program has been specifically designed for school children working together for a 5 day period. It is designed as a whole and the effect is cumulative. The learning method depends on the creation of strong groups of students, and this takes several days work.

The skills developed through the training are:

  • Understanding purpose
  • Working in a methodical way
  • Reviewing, to check that the task is finished, and to learn from the experience
  • Speaking and listening
  • Observation and giving feedback
  • Appreciation of personal and other people's skills
  • Leadership
  • Commitment
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Creative thinking and a readiness to try new things
  • Negotiation
  • Setting targets
  • Behaviour change
  • Developing confidence
  • Developing and encouraging a sense of concern for others and overcoming prejudice

Length:

25 hours spread over 5 days
